How many stores run Shopify, which apps and themes they actually use, and how it stacks up against WooCommerce, Magento, and the rest — based on live detections across our own crawl, not survey data.
Rank distribution of the 177,579 Shopify sites in our crawl, bucketed by global rank tier.
Only 0.9% of Shopify stores crack the global top 10,000 — the platform's strength is long-tail, independent brands rather than a handful of mega-stores.
Shopify stores span 459 distinct top-level domains. .com dominates, but country-code TLDs like .uk, .au, .de, and .ca show where Shopify's international footprint is strongest.
The 20 most-detected third-party tools running on Shopify storefronts, excluding generic web infrastructure (CDNs, CAPTCHAs, JS libraries).
Figures are tool detections, not unique stores — a single store can (and often does) run more than one app in a category.
Dawn, Shopify's free default theme introduced with Online Store 2.0, is detected far more than any paid theme — a sign that most stores stay on the default rather than buying a premium theme.
Primary page language detected across Shopify storefronts.
TechPeeker crawls and fingerprints websites directly, looking for Shopify-specific markers — CDN hostnames, theme asset paths, storefront API calls, and checkout patterns — rather than relying on self-reported survey data. Every number on this page comes from that live dataset of 9,886,188 sites, snapshotted August 29, 2026.
Coverage is a large sample of the web, not a full census, so shares should be read as directional rather than exact. App and theme detections rely on visible front-end signatures, so back-office-only tools (with no storefront footprint) aren't captured.

Common questions about Shopify's usage and market share
We've detected 177,579 live Shopify storefronts across a crawl of 9,886,188 websites. That's roughly 1.8% of all sites we've crawled, and only covers sites we've actually visited, so the true figure globally is higher.
Among dedicated e-commerce platforms we detect, WooCommerce accounts for about 87.0% and Shopify about 11.2%. WooCommerce's volume is driven largely by how widespread WordPress itself is; Shopify remains the clear #2 dedicated platform, ahead of Magento, PrestaShop, BigCommerce, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud combined.
Excluding generic web infrastructure, Klaviyo (email/SMS marketing) is the single most-detected third-party app on Shopify storefronts, followed closely by Judge.me for reviews and Shop Pay for accelerated checkout.
Dawn, Shopify's free default Online Store 2.0 theme, is detected on 24,840 stores in our dataset — several times more than any single paid theme, suggesting most stores never move off the default.
